Hello! My name is Theron. I have been incarcerated for nearly 22 years. I shot and killed someone at age 18…
For years, I have lived in a prison of shame, guilt, and hopelessness. I walked into prison young, angry, and hurting. Thinking I would die in prison, I gave up hope.
In 2014, I began the vulnerable journey to transform my life from a gang member and criminal to a man of education, healing, and leadership. I decided to face my biggest hater/critic: myself. I figured if I learned to love and value myself, I could value and love others and build strong and healthy relationships.
I began with restorative justice. I wanted to heal from violence I experienced and work to amend harms I caused had caused by inflicting violence on others. Restorative justice taught me to understand, live in service, and be compassionate to others. Currently, I work with individuals who struggle with mental health and addiction issues. I am a certified Recovery Mentor, Peer Wellness Specialist, and Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor I. I’m also majoring in Black Studies at Portland State University. Additionally, I’m the president of Capital Toastmasters, a leadership and communication club.
In 2023, the Governor of Oregon commuted my sentence from life without parole to life with the possibility of parole for my extraordinary transformation. I went from dying in prison to preparing a parole plan full of optimism!
I hope my profile encourages you to want to learn more about me. I am interested in learning more about you!
Please note: This service gives you the opportunity to send your first message to a new pen pal, free of charge. If you send more than one message to the same inmate, or a message to someone you already know, they will not be forwarded.
When you send a message using this form, our staff will print and mail it via US Mail or forward it via the prison’s email system, every two weeks. Be patient, and don’t expect an immediate reply. Inmates can’t email you back directly, so include your full name, email address, and complete mailing address or phone number for a reply. Messages without valid contact info won’t be forwarded, nor will messages with threatening or abusive language.
Want to message directly and more quickly? Check the inmate’s profile to see which email service he or she uses (i.e. GettingOut, JPay, Securus). These services cost between 5 to 50 cents per message and offer you the ability to message them directly and instantly.
