I’ve always loved exchanging snail mail, instead of using texting or messaging apps. So many people these days prefer the instant gratification of the short text message, but I believe that the best things in life are worth waiting for. A personal, handwritten letter, where we can talk in more details about our likes, dislikes, wishes, and what we’re looking for in life, seems so much more special than a short “Hey how’s it going” text message…even if it does take a few extra days to arrive.

If you’re still reading, I’m hoping it’s because you feel the same way. I’d love to meet a woman who is tired of the impersonal texting and emojis. A female pen pal who is tired of guys in the free world who barely take the time to read what you’ve written, or always say they’re “too busy” to respond. If you appreciate handwritten letters the way I do, I think we could make the best pen pals!

Let me stop for a moment and tell you a little about me. My name is Michael, originally from Southern California. I’m 48 years old, 5’11” and 205 pounds, Hispanic, with tattoos (as you probably saw in my picture) and I’m currently locked up at a federal prison in Terre Haute, Indiana. I enjoy working out, tattooing, and pursuing my education. Prison teaches you to be flexible, to always have a backup plan, and I think those are great life skills, in or out of prison. That’s why I’ve been focusing on bettering myself in here. The more I can learn while inside, the better prepared I’ll be for life in the free world, when I am released in less than 3 years. I don’t want to just focus on one career; I want to have options. So while I’m currently working on my degree in small business, I’m not opposed to working in a completely different field, or maybe doing multiple things.

I’m an outgoing guy with a great sense of humor who loves to laugh, yet also knows when to take life more seriously. I enjoy spending time outdoors at the lake, working on home projects in the yard, or relaxing indoors cooking a gourmet meal and watching movies with someone special.

Speaking of cooking — many of my friends like the same things all the time. Burgers, Tacos, Chicken Fingers. Not me. I’m much more adventurous and enjoy trying foods from all around the world. As such, I also really enjoy meeting women from anywhere in the world. So if you’re in Europe or Asia or Canada or Africa or even down the road from me in Indiana — wherever you happen to be, I would love to write to you, learn about your life and culture, and get to know you. And I’ll openly share my stories and my life with you, as well.

I’ve never really had the chance in life to meet different types of women, from different backgrounds and religions, so I would really embrace that opportunity should you decide to write. It’s always great to learn something from a person you might have never “met” in the free world. Helps us learn not to judge a book by its cover.

My letters will make you laugh and smile, that much I can promise! When you write, please make sure to use lined notebook paper and use black ink only. Also, the writing can only be on one side of the page (not front and back). So when you’re browsing through all the profiles on PenPals.Buzz, I hope something will stop you, and you’ll hear a little voice in your head saying “Michael Villareal, Michael Villareal,” and you’ll go get some paper, a pen, an envelope and a stamp, and start writing to me. As I said, the best things in life are worth waiting for — and I promise to be here waiting…at least for a few more years!

Please note: This service gives you the opportunity to send your first message to a new pen pal, free of charge. If you send more than one message to the same inmate, or a message to someone you already know, they will not be forwarded.

When you send a message using this form, our staff will print and mail it via US Mail or forward it via the prison’s email system, every two weeks. Be patient, and don’t expect an immediate reply. Inmates can’t email you back directly, so include your full name, email address, and complete mailing address or phone number for a reply. Messages without valid contact info won’t be forwarded, nor will messages with threatening or abusive language.

Want to message directly and more quickly? Check the inmate’s profile to see which email service he or she uses (i.e. GettingOut, JPay, Securus). These services cost between 5 to 50 cents per message and offer you the ability to message them directly and instantly.
