Amy, a cannabis marketing executive in Arizona, began writing to prison pen pals at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. In this episode, she shares her experiences with these non-violent incarcerated men and talks about the reasons why she feels marijuana users, in some states, still get such harsh sentences.
Listen →Many believe prison inmates to be completely undeserving of love or friendship. PenPals.Buzz founder, Big Steve, disagrees. Every Monday, from a studio in beautiful downtown Red Bluff, California, he discusses a different aspect of the prison pen pal experience. Hear perspectives from inmates, their families, free-world pen pals, and even correctional officers and wardens. This podcast is informative, entertaining, tragic, and eye-opening, all at the same time. You’ll see a more human side to prisoners, and you’ll realize that not all prison pen pals are just after money on their commissary accounts or sexy pics. Most, in fact, just want a friend on the outside.
A former radio personality in San Francisco, Big Steve has extensive first-hand experience with the prison system. He even met his wife on a prison pen pal website. During the few minutes a day when he’s not working, Steve enjoys chess, poker, carnitas nachos, reality TV shows, and working to give incarcerated men and women a sense of hope, thereby reducing the recidivism rate. He believes men and women should be judged by who they are today, not by a mistake they made many years, or decades, ago.
