To my future friend,

Greetings, you’re obviously a thoughtful and loving person to even take the time to read this, that’s such a wonderful quality and I look forward to meeting you. A “loving person”… what does that really mean and what’s love anyway? I believe loves an action and a feeling. The action of love is giving, not taking. The best thing is that if love’s an action, loves also a choice; therefore, every day I can choose to love you and give you my love regardless of what happens to me. I cannot “fall out of love”, I can only choose to be selfish and stop giving my love away. Loves also a feeling but it isn’t just in ourselves, but it’s the feeling we generate in someone else. Our love caused someone else to feel loved and if we are lucky then who am I? I’m athletic (6’2, 180lbs) I’m 53 years old and firmly believe that age is just a number. My love languages are “touch” and “acts of service”. I love to sing, garden, swing dance, play cards, travel and do just about anything sport. I’ve started dabbling in poetry recently.

Here’s an example:

These stone walls surround me; they keep me in a pen. Each day I think I might get out, then look, I’m in again.
The walls are high and thick; they’re sold and they’re cold.
Built with one grand purpose, a person within they hold.
These walls were built to keep me in, but also to keep others out.
We feel so safe in the world today, with big stone walls about.
But these walls of which I speak, they must be torn apart.
For they’re not the walls of a city or a cell, but the walls around my heart.

I’m currently serving a life sentence charged with the death of my wife, and when she died, I built that wall around my heart. After years of pain and grief, I was able to tear it down and I’m looking for someone else who has broken their wall.

How Does This Work?
This is a great time to briefly introduce yourself and let the inmate know what interested you about their pen pal profile.

Please note: This service gives you the opportunity to send your first message to a new pen pal, free of charge. If you send more than one message to the same inmate, or a message to someone you already know, they will not be forwarded.

When you send a message using this form, our staff will print and mail it via US Mail or forward it via the prison’s email system, every two weeks. Be patient, and don’t expect an immediate reply. Inmates can’t email you back directly, so include your full name, email address, and complete mailing address or phone number for a reply. Messages without valid contact info won’t be forwarded, nor will messages with threatening or abusive language.

Want to message directly and more quickly? Check the inmate’s profile to see which email service he or she uses (i.e. GettingOut, JPay, Securus). These services cost between 5 to 50 cents per message and offer you the ability to message them directly and instantly.
