Good for Something

My grandma always use to say, “Even when you good for nothing… you’re good for something.” Okay, maybe she didn’t really say that, but may her soul rest in peace. I could hear her saying something like that whenever i feel worthless or defeated.
I guess sitting here in prison kind of puts me in that mind frame. In search of grandma’s comfort, hoping for a chance to show that I am good for something.

I have almost 13 years in on a 262-month sentence. It crushed me having to take this much time. I still don’t know how I mentally prepared myself for it, but I did! “God doesn’t make mistakes.” Another piece of wisdom i could hear my grandma saying that she didn’t really say.

During this prison stay I’ve lost so many to gun violence. All individuals I could have been with had I been free. Thinking about that has transformed my outlook on life. It’s caused me to hear my grandma’s voice more clearly.

Which leads me to “Building Starts!” No, that is not something I could hear grandma saying, but I think it would make her proud. It’s the cornerstone of an idea her great grandson created, my youngest son. It was birthed from one of the deepest conversations you could ever have with a 10-year-old…a talk about taking his video game. LOL

I wanted to start teaching him about the benefits of owning his own company early in life. Going into his teens are some of the most valuable years of his life. They shape his future and i didn’t need to hear grandma’s voice to know right then and there that I’d be good for something. I gave him the honor of naming our future Real estate and property management company we’d own one day. “Building Starts”…everybody needs a start and we’re going to help build them. Manifestation, you have to speak it into existence:)

I’d like to thank you for taking the time out of your day to allow me to share with you some parts of me that make me feel good for something. I guess this makes us somewhat familiar, so please don’t be a stranger. you can reach out to me anytime you’re bored, have something on your mind or just want to hear what grandma’s been saying:)

My e-mail is RROACHHAM@emailinterface.org and you can send me a text at 815-376-1959

Before I go, I read something that I thought was clever, funny and needed to be shared. I don’t know what it’s called so I call it “The lessons of a little bird.”

A little bird was flying south for the winter. It got so cold during the flight that the little bird froze in midair, fell and landed in a large field. A cow came along and dropped some dung on it. As the bird laid there in the dung, frozen. It realized the dung was actually thawing it out. Happy, it began to sing for joy. A cat, hearing the singing, investigates. Following the sound of the little birds lovely voice it discovers the little bird under the cow dung frozen. the cat digs it out and eats it!
The moral of the story. Not everyone who shits on you is your enemy. Not everyone who gets you out of shit is your friend. And when you’re in deep shit…it’s best to keep your mouth shut! LOL

Sincerely,
Robert

Please note: This service gives you the opportunity to send your first message to a new pen pal, free of charge. If you send more than one message to the same inmate, or a message to someone you already know, they will not be forwarded.

When you send a message using this form, our staff will print and mail it via US Mail or forward it via the prison’s email system, every two weeks. Be patient, and don’t expect an immediate reply. Inmates can’t email you back directly, so include your full name, email address, and complete mailing address or phone number for a reply. Messages without valid contact info won’t be forwarded, nor will messages with threatening or abusive language.

Want to message directly and more quickly? Check the inmate’s profile to see which email service he or she uses (i.e. GettingOut, JPay, Securus). These services cost between 5 to 50 cents per message and offer you the ability to message them directly and instantly.
