People often equate the word "Hustle" with something bad -- they think a man who hustles is trying to somehow cheat the system or take advantage of people or situations. However, Dictionary.com defines the word Hustle as: to proceed or work rapidly or energetically.

I have had to hustle in order to survive. It wasn't by choice, but by the fact I've lived almost my entire life behind these bars, behind these walls. Hustling was how I grew up. It wasn't just with money but with the mind; I forced myself to control my actions in order to achieve better results. Sometimes, the best action was inaction -- hesitation is often crucial. I credit God for giving me the gifts and ability to work hard and energetically -- to hustle in a positive way.

It hasn't come easy. Years ago, I was diagnosed with ADHD, but instead of dwelling on the diagnosis and playing the victim, I turned it around and used it as a springboard to better myself. They told me it was a disorder, one of the symptoms being "excess energy." I taught myself to channel that energy effectively. Putting in work is ok, but figuring out how to work smarter and better is where I have thrived in this prison environment.

I'm not a picky man, but if I'm forced to pick, I will. Sometimes we have to make choices, even if we're not 100% sure they're correct ones. Life must be lived forward, a wise man once said, but can only be understood in reverse. We can, however, use past experiences and lessons to guide our decisions, to not repeat the same mistakes. I'd love to meet a woman, start off as friends, and see where things go. I'll try anything with a woman, as I love experiencing new things, and after all, a woman is a man's soulmate (and God's soulmate).

Once I'm released, I have big plans to use my "hustle" in a productive way and leave a lasting and positive mark on a world that saved mine. Yes, I'm alone -- no family, no girl -- they all left me after my arrest. Today, I make family by being me, by being authentic, and by working rapidly and energetically. I make music, give advice to friends, play basketball, am really good creating things with my hands, and I know how to react to any situation.

Let's exchange letters, perhaps we can become friends and help each other with whatever we might be going through. We might be able to benefit from each other's perspectives on life. You never know unless you try, right?
